Role specific purpose:

This post will contribute to MCWFC success by providing high level physiotherapy support to MCWFC Academy players in line with the MCWFC Medical Team approach and aligned to MCWFC Performance Services Strategy.

 

Role specific accountabilities:

As a key member of the MCWFC Physiotherapy team & MCWFC Academy MDT, be responsible for the ongoing planning, delivery, and review of Physiotherapy support to MCWFC Academy Teams/players in line with the MCWFC Performance Services Strategy.

Provide ongoing delivery of evidence-informed rehabilitation/return to play programmes that minimises time lost to injury and minimises chances of re-injury for MCWFC Academy Players

Deliver a proactive approach to injury management for MCWFC Academy players, working closely with the MCWFC Doctor as appropriate.

Working in partnership with MCWFC Physical Performance practitioners, develop proactive approaches to injury risk reduction in line with the MCWFC Performance Services strategy

Reporting to the MCWFC Lead Physiotherapist, manage the use of contractors to support ongoing injury prevention, injury management, and pitch side cover for training/matches

Provide matchday physiotherapy support to Academy squads as required.

With support of the MCWFC Lead Physiotherapist, ensure ongoing best-practice injury surveillance is adhered to, contributing to consistent reporting to key stakeholders.

Ensure communication is proactive, timely and consistent to all relevant stakeholders in line with delivering a high-level physiotherapy support service.

Ensure excellent standards of clinical governance including contributing to databasing, record keeping, and injury /illness auditing across MCWFC medical services in a consistent and timely fashion.

Role specific knowledge, skills and experience:  

What the role holder needs to know or have experience of to do the job effectively. NB- This is regarding the role requirement, not the person within the role.

Essential:

  • A recognised Physiotherapy qualification (eg. Undergraduate degree)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Sports Injury Rehabilitation, Strength & Conditioning, or other related and supporting area
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Hold an up-to-date advanced emergency pitch-side qualification (eg ATMMiF)
  • Experience working in a developmental sporting environment, with experience of leading on the rehabilitation of common and complex injuries.
  • Knowledge and technical skillset in physiotherapy and rehabilitation in a performance/development environment (including training adaptation, injury/illness risk management, confidence in assessment and clinical judgment etc).
  • An ability to develop excellent relationships with key stakeholders (Players, Coaches, wider MDT) that enable challenge, support and trust in the Physiotherapy support provided.
  • An ability to reflect on current working practice & adapt as required.
  • An ability to utilise performance related data to inform practice

Desirable:

  • Experience working with elite female athletes/in Women’s sport.
  • Experience working in elite professional football
  • Sports Rehabilitation training
  • Strength & Conditioning education/training
  • Understanding of ‘Long-Term Athlete Development’ theory and its application to a professional football talent development pathway.
  • Understanding of ‘Growth & Maturation’ theory and its application to LTAD.
