Based at Manchester City Football Academy, this permanent full-time role supports the delivery of grounds maintenance across Manchester City sites. You will help prepare, maintain and improve high-quality football environments for players, colleagues and visitors, while developing your skills within a professional sports turf setting. The role includes regular weekend and matchday working.

Within our Grounds team, we create and maintain the high-quality playing and training environments that support players, colleagues and visitors across Manchester City sites. From pitch preparation to longer-term maintenance, the team works with care, consistency and pride to ensure our facilities are safe, professional and ready for football.

 

The Role

 

As Assistant Groundsperson, you will support the day-to-day delivery of grounds maintenance across Manchester City sites, helping to ensure our pitches, landscaping and wider facilities are safe, well-presented and ready for use. You will work as part of the Grounds team to maintain high standards in line with Club policies, health and safety procedures and best practice.

 

You will contribute to allocated maintenance tasks, including pitch preparation, marking out and setting up playing surfaces, preparing machinery for use and applying granular products where competent to do so. You will also support routine grounds activity, assist with project work and help ensure urgent repairs or site issues are made safe.

 

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys practical work, teamwork and developing technical sports turf skills. You will work closely with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders while continuing to learn within a fast-moving football environment.

 

What You’ll Bring

 

Experience or knowledge of sports turf or grounds maintenance, ideally within winter sports or a comparable grounds environment.

 NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf (or working towards).

Ability to support pitch preparation, including marking out, setting up playing surfaces and preparing machinery for safe use.

Awareness of health and safety requirements in grounds or sports turf work.

Clear communication skills, reliability and a flexible approach to working as part of a team.

Motivation to keep learning, self-evaluate and develop practical grounds maintenance skills.
