Fan Technology Solutions is looking for a talented and driven Back-End Developer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the Man City Fan Technology Platform, which underpins all digital products and services for Manchester City Football Club. This platform is crucial for delivering a seamless experience to our fans, and you will play a key role in enhancing its performance and scalability.

Working closely with other back-end developers, you will help design and build content management systems (CMS) and APIs that provide content for fan-facing applications. Ideal candidates will have experience optimising high-traffic websites, particularly in media or entertainment, and be comfortable working in an agile environment with rapidly evolving requirements.

Your Impact

  1. Platform Development: Design and develop core platform functionality, including CMS and APIs, to support integration by internal teams and third-party suppliers across Man City Digital Products.
  2. Collaboration: Work closely with fellow back-end developers and key suppliers to identify and define necessary changes to existing platform functionality or the creation of new features.
  3. Technical Architecture: Partner with the Lead Back-end Developer to design and document secure, scalable technical architecture for any required changes or new features.
  4. Documentation: Produce clear and comprehensive documentation for work packages, ensuring they are easily shared with development teams, internal product managers, and third-party suppliers.
  5. Backlog Management: Manage and prioritise a development backlog, collaborating with development teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality features.
  6. Platform Maintenance: Monitor and troubleshoot the platform to ensure stability and performance, proactively introducing improvements where needed.
  7. Innovation: Test and explore new digital technologies, services, and suppliers that could further enhance the fan experience or drive online revenue generation.

 

What we are looking for

Essential

  • .NET Development (C#)
  • Extensive experience with Umbraco CMS
  • Design and implementation of REST APIs
  • Cloud hosting administration (preferably Azure)
  • SQL Server – Stored Procedures
  • Experience with document databases (Cosmos DB / MongoDB)
  • Experience with CI/CD (preferably Azure DevOps)
  • Familiarity with legal frameworks for handling user data (e.g., GDPR, PCI)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving ability

 

Desirable

  • .NET Core
  • Experience with serverless technologies (preferably Azure Functions)
  • Experience with CDNs (preferably Cloudflare)
  • Experience with API Gateways (preferably Azure APIM)
  • SQL Server (preferably Azure SQL)
  • Experience with website/API monitoring tools (preferably New Relic)
  • Proficiency with Postman
  • Experience with payment systems and providers
  • Knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Familiarity with Clean Code principles
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
