The role holder is responsible for the planning, teaching and administration on education programmes within the Professional Development Phase (U18-U23), and partially within the Youth Development Phase (U13-16), in line with the EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan).

The role holder will oversee the delivery of the ESOL Tuition and support the delivery of the Sporting Excellence Professional apprenticeship programme (SEP). The role holder will facilitate learning for international players at the Club who are undertaking home nation qualifications as well as Trinity/Functional Skills English and Maths. Where appropriate the role holder will also facilitate and oversee the learning of international qualifications for home nation players.

Other administrative duties include implementation of the club tournament policy, production and gathering of school reports as directed, and completion of player school visits. The role holder will also support the administrative requirements of the Elite Player Performance Plan for players, parents and schools/Colleges in the Foundation Phase, Youth Development and Professional Development phase as directed.

The job holder will work with all internal stakeholders in the business, as well as external stakeholders, to coordinate all activities that assist the players in achieving their target grades identified by the schools and Premier League Education.

Accountabilities with Key Outcomes: 


Plan and deliver the ESOL Suite of qualifications to the U18 Scholars and EDS players (under the age of 18) based at the Academy, in order that they all successfully complete the qualification to a minimum of their target grade.


Support delivery the Level 3 SEP Sporting Excellence Professional teaching programmes of study to the international U18 Scholars and EDS players (under the age of 18) based at the Academy in order that they all successfully complete the qualification.


Co-ordinate the curriculum delivery with the schools of the international players through a clear communication pathway and reporting system.



Complete and update the Premier League Learner Management System including, reviews, submissions of work, registers, attendance and resource provision for the U18s ESOL, SEP and Functional Skills on time and in line with Premier League regulations.


Plan and organise the implementation of further education qualifications for international players.


Support and implement the tracking and monitoring of players on the Full Time, Hybrid and Part Time Training Models


Co-ordinate the tournament player release policy and process, co-ordinate and produce tournament diaries in line with the tournament schedule.


Be an active member of the operations and development department in the Academy, and support with the completion of departmental projects as and when required.

  • Educated to degree level, the post holder may also have other relevant professional qualifications.
  • ESOL Teaching Qualification.
  • Experience of working with International Students. 
  • Language skills in Spanish and one other language.
  • Demonstrable experience in teaching and working with young people
  • Evidence of consistent/outstanding teaching grades as appropriate
  • Experience of working in the post 16 sector
  • Up to date knowledge of education in the foreign language sector.
  • Knowledge of the Achieving Sporting Excellence (ASE); Sporting Excellence Professional (SEP);
  • Knowledge of the ESOL suite of qualifications.
  • Knowledge of the Functional Skills suite of qualifications.
  • A positive attitude to IT and a willingness to learn to use digital resources effectively
  • High levels of proficiency in all Microsoft Office packages
  • Able to produce written reports, presentations and other documents and academy publications to the highest written and aesthetic standards.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and present it in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to present to large groups of people.
  • Ability to create high quality materials to use within the academy and to use resources and materials effectively

  • Experience of teaching and assessing functional skills in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working within a category one Football Club.
  • Experience of working within an elite sports environment.
  • Knowledge of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP)
  • Post possesses, or willing to work towards the A1 Assessor Award (or equivalent)







Job Impact/Influence Measures:

Direct impact on success of players achieving target grades through ILPs

Has an indirect impact on reducing risk of players achieving target grades due to schedule changes.

Decision-making Authority:

The role holder will provide alternative strategies, as appropriate, when players are at risk of working below main target grades.



This role involves working with children and/or vulnerable adults in a Regulated Activity. This means that the post-holder is required to apply all relevant policies and uphold the Club’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people. 

Team Whereabouts

All members of the Education Team are responsible for providing accurate information about Player whereabouts if the Education Schedule dictates out of schedule requirements. Appropriate training will be provided to all the members of the department to ensure all the club obligations in terms of anti-doping whereabouts are met.
