Job Description

Role Title: Head of Performance Analysis, Academy

 

Reports to: Director of Performance Services, Academy

Division: Football Education & Recreation

 

Department: Performance Services, Academy

Role specific purpose:     

Purpose:

Lead, oversee and coordinate the performance analysis support provision for all Academy age groups.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the analysis function in line with the overarching Performance Services 5-year plan.

Design the performance analysis provision for the elite players within the Academy, monitoring and tracking development using objective and subjective data aligned to the What it Takes to Develop Model (WITTD).

Oversee Academy philosophy and methodology, aiding with the vision of the Academy to support the Academy Heads of Coaching for coach education.

Actively participate in wider Academy management projects (WAMT).

 

Role specific accountabilities:

1

Lead the support provision and requirements of the analysis function within the Academy to effectively provide an evidence-based support system for our WITTD model.

Utilise objective markers to provide clarity around team philosophy and individual role requirements using the WITTD model.

Use the individual role requirements as basis upon which individual player development plans (IDP’s) can be created and measured over time.

Align feedback delivery of match and educational content to all players and coaching staff, ensuring the most applicable method and style is used, including the use of specialist software.

Oversee individual analysis from U12 – U23 age groups using subjective and objective data to inform the Academy Management Team (AMT) in line with the WITTD model.

Manage the MCFC Academy performance analysis budget in line with the 5-year plan.

Manage the MCFC Academy performance analysis budget in line with the 5-year plan.

Actively participate in the Performance Analysis Senior Leadership Team to ensure the performance analysis strategy is being realised.

 

Role specific knowledge, skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Coaching methods, structure, and execution.
  • High levels of information technology skills
  • Sports-science methods, structure, and execution
  • Highly competent IT skills, including MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Highly competent in using various analysis software
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to be flexible
  • Pro-active and engaging style
  • Remain calm under pressure
  • Willing to self-evaluate and work towards continuous improvement
  • Understands the wider business context
  • Process driven with careful attention to detail
  • Reflects on current working practice in a timely manner and drives continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate a continual desire for improvement
  • Highly creative and open-minded
  • Desire to specialise in youth development
  • Extensive experience in elite sport within an analysis position at either senior or youth development level
  • Experience in leadership role within elite sport
  • Experience as an applied practitioner in a performance analysis
  • Undergraduate degree in Sports Science, specialising in performance analysis
  • Postgraduate degree in a related field (e.g. MSc/MPhil/MRes)
  • ISPAS Level 5 accredited performance analyst

Desirable:

  • Understanding of football tactics, games management and talent ID.
  • Appreciation of Sport Psychology, profiling and individual learning styles
  • Competent using data management and visualisation systems
  • Fluent in multiple languages
  • Use and appreciation of psychological profiling and learning styles
  • Demonstrate applied impact using objective date to inform decision making
  • Further study in the field (such as PhD)
  • Data visualisation qualifications (such as Tableau)
