Location:

Manchester, GB

Full Time / Part Time:  Variable Hours
Contract Type:  Other Casual

Manchester City Football Club is looking for warm, welcoming host families to provide safe, supportive accommodation for Boys Academy players aged 11 to 18. This paid host-family opportunity is based in homes with good transport links to the City Football Academy and partner education sites, with accommodation needs ranging from full-time to part-time across the football season. Short-term, ad hoc accommodation may also be needed during the season.

Who We Are

Manchester City is a football club rooted in East Manchester, with a story that began in 1880 and continues to grow today. Built on resilience, belief and togetherness, success on the pitch is driven by the moments and memories shared with millions of Fans around the world. City is known for its bravery, its determination to the very end and its strong connection to where we come from. With Mancunian roots and a global outlook, we are shaped by our Fans and driven by a long-term vision, from developing future talent to supporting the communities we call home. Together, we are creating the next chapter, the City way.

Our Academy supports talented young players as they develop on and off the pitch. Host families play an important part in that journey, offering a stable home environment that helps young people balance football, education, independence and everyday family life.

The Role

As a host parent or host family, you will provide a homely, safe and welcoming environment for young players living away from home. You will support their wellbeing by offering nutritious meals, emotional encouragement and day-to-day guidance as they manage training, education and life in a new setting.

You will help players build essential life skills, including doing laundry, preparing meals and maintaining a clean living space, while including them in family life as much as they feel comfortable with. The home environment should offer respite from formal development programmes and help safeguard each player’s physical and emotional welfare.

Accommodation requirements can vary from full-time to part-time across the football season. Ideally, host families should be able to accommodate at least two players, each with their own room, and a willingness to provide short-term ad hoc accommodation during the season is also desirable.

What You’ll Bring

  • Ability to provide a warm, safe, non-smoking household for Boys Academy players aged 11 to 18.
  • Capacity, ideally, to accommodate at least two players, each with their own room.
  • High-quality accommodation, including a spacious single or double bedroom, sufficient clothes storage, a desk, WiFi, suitable access to a bathroom and laundry facilities.
  • Ability to provide high-quality, nutritious meals in line with Academy guidance, generally evening meals on training days and breakfast, lunch, evening meal and snacks on rest days.
  • Accommodation with access to public and local amenities and good transport links to City Football Academy (M11 4TQ) and partner education sites.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, safer recruitment and ongoing Academy requirements, including DBS checks, home visits, references, training, and communication with the Performance Lifestyle and Safeguarding Teams and the player’s family.

Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment

Manchester City Football Club is committed to safeguarding and ensuring the welfare and protection of children and young people, and expects host families to share this commitment. Host family providers will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and risk assessments before a placement begins.

The application and screening process is comprehensive and follows our Safer Recruitment policy. This includes DBS checks for anyone living in the home aged 16 or over, home visits and references. Any other person over the age of 18 who resides in the household or has regular contact with the player will also be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Host families will be required to complete safeguarding training and workshops arranged by the Academy. The Club will provide further guidance and training to host families, young people and their parents, explaining what is expected of everyone involved. Host families will also need to adhere to further and ongoing requirements outlined during the application process, including home visits from our Performance Lifestyle and Safeguarding Teams.

Why Choose Us

Being a Manchester City host family is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a young player’s development, wellbeing and confidence. You will help create the stable, caring environment that allows players to feel supported while they pursue their football and education.

Host families are supported by the Academy through guidance, training and ongoing communication. You will work with the Performance Lifestyle and Safeguarding Teams at Manchester City Football Club, as well as the young player’s family, so that each placement is supported clearly and responsibly.

Host families are paid monthly, with host fees calculated on a per-night basis when a player is placed with them (£42 per night).
