Our Story

Manchester City Women is an English football club initially founded by City in the Community in 1988. Relaunched by a formal partnership with Manchester City FC, MCWFC entered the FA Women’s Super League and professionalised in 2014. Success has followed in not only the FAWSL but also the Women’s FA Cup and Continental Tyres League Cup, while the team has regularly competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The team plays its home fixtures at Joie Stadium, a 7,000-capacity arena. The stadium sits on the wider Etihad Campus, which also encompasses the City Football Academy, a state-of-the-art training and development facility that houses its women’s, men’s and academy teams.

Our Winning Team

Manchester City Football Club are seeking warm and welcoming host families to provide safe and supportive environment for our boys and girls academy players (aged between 11 - 18 years old).

As a host parent, you’ll be a vital part of our players’ development, supporting them both on and off pitch. You’ll offer a welcoming home environment, nutritious meals, emotional encouragement, and guidance as they adapt to living away from home while balancing their training and education.

Accommodation requirements vary from full-time to part-time basis across the football season. A willingness to provide short-term ad hoc accommodation throughout the season is also desirable.

What we are looking for

  • Ideally, host families should be able to accommodate at least two players, each with their own room. However, we also welcome applications from families who can provide a room for a single player.
  • Provide a homely, safe and welcoming environment to our young players.
  • Provide high quality accommodation for our young players, including a spacious single or double bedroom, sufficient storage for clothes, a desk, WiFi, suitable access to a bathroom and laundry facilities.
  • Provide high-quality, nutritious meals in line with guidance from the Academy (generally evening meals on training days and breakfast, lunch, evening meal and snacks on rest days).
  • Be a non-smoking household.
  • Safeguard the physical and emotional welfare of players, creating a secure, family environment that offers respite from formal development programmes.
  • Help the young player develop essential life skills by guiding them in tasks like doing laundry, preparing meals, and maintaining a clean-living space.
  • Accommodation has access to public and local amenities with good transport links to City Football Academy (M11 4TQ), as well as St Bedes College (M16 8HX), and The Barlow RC High School (M20 6BX) for our Boys Academy Players.
  • Include our young people in family life as much as they feel comfortable with.
  • The club will provide further guidance and training to host families, young people and their parents explaining what would be expected of them.
  • Undergo a comprehensive application and screening process, as laid out in our Safer Recruitment policy. This will include DBS checks (anyone living in the home aged 16 years or older), home visits and references.
  • Communicate with the Performance Lifestyle and Safeguarding Teams at Manchester City Football Club and the family of the young player.
  • Adhere to any further and ongoing requirements of Host Families, as outlined in the application process, including home visits from our Performance Lifestyle and Safeguarding Teams.

Safeguarding

Manchester City Football Club is committed to safeguarding and ensuring the welfare and protection of children and young people and expects host families to share this commitment. As such, the host family provider will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and risk assessments prior to a placement commencing.

Any other person over the age of 18, who resides in the household or has regular contact with the player will be required to complete an enhanced DBS. Host Families will be required to complete safeguarding training and workshops arranged by the Academy.

Payment

Host families will be paid on a monthly basis, with host fees calculated on a per night basis when they have a player placed with them.
