At City Football Group, our Data Insights & Decision Technology (DIDT) team are continuing to evolve and enhance our impact on the decision-making processes across our football clubs. Through our continued investment in Artificial Intelligence and Simulation we are testing and refining footballing principles and building solutions that enable key stakeholders and performance practitioners to make better decisions faster. 

This role will work collaboratively with the Data Insights & Decision Technology team, supporting key AI & Football Intelligence projects and solving the performance challenges faced by our football practitioners across CFG. 


Within these projects, the successful candidate will explore data to identify robust patterns, extract important features and communicate their findings in a clear manner. 


Alongside strong technical skills, this role requires an individual with insatiable curiosity, imagination and creativity to come up with ideas to tackle football performance challenges and has the drive and discipline to learn and develop new skills.  

Accountabilities with Key Outcomes:  


Working in the Data Insights & Decision Technology team alongside CFG Data Engineers to research & build data science solutions that will support our teams across CFG 


Play a supporting role in developing a Narrow AI platform to identify talent, inform development pathways and understand & predict the football transfer market 


Support the development of AI models that will evolve our understanding of football from a recruitment, medical and on-pitch perspective. 


Play a supporting role within the DIDT team in advancing our simulation & reinforcement learning environments

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:   


MSc/PhD (or 3+ years in industry) in a quantitative discipline (maths, sciences, engineering, computing etc…) 


Applied experience in using Python, C++ or other programming languages. 


Experience working with both structured and unstructured data-sources including text, video and spatio-temporal data. 


Ability to work in an agile manner suited to the innovative and fast-paced nature of the football industry.  



Evidence of working with and deriving actionable insights from football data either as a hobby or within previous employment.  


Experience with big data tools such as Databricks, Spark, Hadoop or similar. 


Experience with Azure, AWS or GCP cloud services or equivalent. 


Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Azure Data Factory, AWS data pipelines, Apache Airflow, etc.
