Our Story

Manchester City Women is an English football club initially founded by City in the Community in 1988. Relaunched by a formal partnership with Manchester City FC, MCWFC entered the FA Women’s Super League and professionalised in 2014. Success has followed in not only the FAWSL but also the Women’s FA Cup and Continental Tyres League Cup, while the team has regularly competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. ​

The team plays its home fixtures at Joie Stadium, a 7,000 capacity arena. The stadium sits on the wider Etihad Campus, which also encompasses the City Football Academy, a state-of-the-art training and development facility that houses its women’s, men’s and academy teams. ​

Our Winning Team

We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking practitioner to assist in the planning, delivery, and review of integrated physical performance support throughout the entire Manchester City Women's Football Club (MCWFC) pathway, in line with the academy performance services strategy. This role is crucial in ensuring that players at every stage of the pathway are developing the physical characteristics necessary to progress and ultimately perform at the highest levels of the women’s game.

You will take the lead in the physical development of the U12 and U14 squads, including the planning, delivery, and review of physical performance plans, monitoring of internal and external load, and ensuring that on-pitch training consistently meets the required demands for future elite performance.

Your Impact

1. Integrated & Individual Strength & Conditioning 

- Responsible for the planning, delivery, and review of evidence informed strength & conditioning programmes (on/off-pitch) that maximise individual physical development and group physical performance and are aligned to the MCFC Performance Services strategy.

- Implementation of age & stage specific S&C programming & coaching to teams & individuals  

- Working collaboratively with coaches to ensure the design & delivery of representative on-pitch training practices that achieve technical/tactical and physical outcomes. 

- Collaborate with injury management team to deliver strength and conditioning programmes that contribute to return to play and rehabilitation of long-term injuries.

 

2. Monitoring Systems & Benchmarking 

- Planning, delivery, and review of age & stage-relevant pathway monitoring processes & benchmarking including, growth & maturation, physical profiling, internal and external workload monitoring, neuromuscular state, and wellness.

3. Educational Content Delivery

  • Deliver an educational curriculum to ensure that players develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours relevant to the development of elite senior players in the areas of football specific physical preparation, performance, and recovery.

 

What we are looking for

 

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc in Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning or related area.
  • Working towards UKSCA Accreditation or equivalent
  • First Aid qualification

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working in a sporting environment.
  • Some understanding of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Understanding of developing and delivering physical development programmes to achieve objective performance impact.
  • An ability to develop excellent relationships with players, coaches & the wider MDT.
  • An ability to reflect on current working practice & adapt as required.
  • An ability to utilise performance related data to inform practice.

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in professional sport.
  • Previous experience working with female athletes/in Women’s sport.
  • BASES accreditation
  • UKSCA accreditation or equivalent
  • Experience in delivering/contributing to injury rehabilitation/return to play programmes.
  • A recognised postgraduate qualification (ie MSc) in Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning or related area
