Based at Manchester City Football Academy, this permanent full-time role supports the delivery of high-quality grounds maintenance across Manchester City sites. You will help maintain safe, professional and match-ready playing environments, taking responsibility for allocated maintenance tasks, supporting planning and helping junior colleagues deliver work to the standards expected across an elite football setting. The role will include regular weekend and matchday working.

Within our Grounds team, we create and maintain the high-quality playing and training environments that support players, colleagues and visitors across Manchester City sites. From pitch preparation to longer-term maintenance, the team works with care, consistency and pride to ensure our facilities are safe, professional and ready for football.

 

The Role

 

As a Skilled Groundsperson, you will play an important role in maintaining and improving the Club’s pitches, landscapes and wider grounds environments. You will deliver grounds maintenance services safely and efficiently, in line with Club policies, environmental standards, legislation and best practice.

 

You will take ownership of allocated maintenance tasks from planning through to completion, including scoping work, ordering materials, using machinery and applying chemicals and fertilisers appropriately. You will also support weekly and monthly planning, monitor service standards and suggest practical improvements.

 

Working closely with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, you will help provide the best possible environments for users of our grounds facilities. Although the role has no direct reports, it will involve coordinating and supervising more junior colleagues when required.

 

What You’ll Bring

 

NVQ Level 3 in Sportsturf, or working towards it, with a sound grounding in sports turf maintenance.

PA1, PA2 and PA6 pesticide application certificates, with knowledge of safe chemical and fertiliser use.

Experience in a grounds maintenance role, ideally within football, rugby, cricket or another sports turf environment.

Working knowledge of health and safety requirements, automatic irrigation systems and safe use of pedestrian and ride-on machinery.

Ability to plan maintenance activity around football training, matchday and site schedules.

Clear communication, basic IT skills and the ability to coordinate work with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
